Mohd Asrol Tajuddin
led Perlis to a big
win on the opening
day of the Under-17
division of the
Minister of
Education Football
League (MEFL) when
they overcame Sabah
4-0 at the SMK Syed
Hassan.
A hat-trick from
Mohd Asrol (12th,
25th and
48th
minute) and another
from Mohd Azim
Ariffin (65th)
were enough for the
northerners to pick
up their first three
points of the
newly-initiated
season.
In the other matches
in Group A, Kuala
Lumpur scored a 3-2
win over Kedah while
Kelantan scored the
only goal of the
game against Pulau
Pinang at the SMK
Mutiara Impian.
Melaka in Group B on
the other hand made
short work of Bandar
Penawar Sports
School with a 4-1
score at the Stadium
Hang Jebat.
The remaining Group
B fixtures saw
Terengganu going
down 2-1 to Sarawak
at home while east
coast neighbours
Pahang were held to
a 1-1 draw by
Selangor as Johor
stumbled to a 1-0
loss to Negeri
Sembilan at the
Stadium Larkin.
Datuk Redzuan Tan
Sri Sheikh Ahmad,
the deputy president
of the FA of
Malaysia (FAM) who
attended the
official kick-off
with Datuk Salleh
Yusof, the Director
General of Dewan
Bandaraya Kuala
Lumpur (DBKL) was
satisfied with the
level of play.
“The MEFL is an
important step in
the development of
football in the
country. It is a way
of finding the right
balance between
education and
sports,” said Datuk
Redzuan.
In the Under-14
division in the
meantime, saw Kedah
blasting Kuala
Lumpur 3-0 at the
Stadium Bolasepak
Kuala Lumpur in
Cheras.
Despite playing
away, the Under-14
side from Kedah
started the game
well when they
scored the first
goal off Mohd Azuan
Abdul Aziz in the 16th
minute.
Two further goals
from Mohd Syakir
Saidin in the 29th
minute and Mohd
Iqbal Mat Najib in
the 34th
minute completed the
rout in a game which
lasted forty minutes
each half.
In the other matches
of the afternoon,
Pahang beat Selangor
2-0 while Terengganu
survived a scare at
home when they were
held to a 3-3 draw
by Perak.
The Bandar Penawar
Sports School scored
a morale boosting
3-1 away win over
Melaka at the
Stadium Hang Jebat
as fellow
southerners Johor
nailed a 4-2 win
over Negeri Sembilan
at the Stadium
Larkin.
In the final two
matches of the day,
saw Penang being
held to a 2-2 draw
by Kelantan while
Perlis also failed
to win at home when
they could only
afford a drab 1-1
draw with Sabah.
The league is
participated by a
total of 16 teams,
one from each state,
and will run from
April through to
August this year.
The MEFL is
organised with the
cooperation of
100PLUS, the
Ministry of
Education, the
Ministry of Youth
and Sports and the
Football Association
of Malaysia (FAM).
