JOHOR WIN MEN'S
CROWN; MAKSAK TAKE WOMEN'S TITLE

Shah Alam, 12 August 2007;
Johor prevented an all-Maksak
win at the National Futsal
Championship Felda-FAM 2007 when
they beat the men's team 3-2 in
the penalty shootout in the
final which was played at the
Stadium Malawati.
The
score at the end of regulation
was 2-2 with goals coming off
Mohd Fuad Yusof (4th minute) and
Abdul Halim Hadi (20 th minute)
for Johor and Mohd Hadi Yusof
(2nd minute) and K. Thayalan
(27th minute) scoring for Maksak.
But
in the shootout, Johor
maintained their composure for
Lukman Tajuddn to provide the
winner for the southerners.
Incidentally, Lukman was also
chosen as the men's player of
the tournament.
"I
studied our game well after our
loss to Terengganu yesterday,"
said head coach Lahat Dadok
Sulik, whose team won not only
the RM50,000 prize money but
also the award as the best men's
team in the competition.
"We
knew that if we can hold them to
penalties, then we will have a
chance of winning the title."
However, the Maksak women's team
salvaged some measure of pride
when they had to fight tooth and
nail before they were able to
beat PDRM 1-0 in the final.
Following a first-half deadlock,
a single penalty conversion off
Mariam Alias in the 12th minute
allowed Maksak to win the RM
50,000 prize money.
PDRM should not have to feel too
bad about the defeat as they
went home with the RM 30,000.
"The players worked hard and
they deserved the win," said
Yazid.
"We
lost one match to Proton
yesterday but the players picked
up their game and they were a
lot better in the final today."
The Maksak women's team was
chosen as the best women's team
in the competition while Nurul
Aisha Mohd Nor from Kelantan won
the award as the best women's
player of the championship.
